save password

Hi. When accessing a computer on the network and asks for username and password, even though I check the 'save password' box, it only keeps it for this session (ie until restarting). It seems the 'save password' isn't working?

I think thats by design just for the session, security reasons I guess. Administrators can't have their passwords saved I don't think - whilst Standard Users can have their passwords saved.

Isn't there any way around it? It's going to suck pretty bad (at least for me) if that is the case, because I have my favorites pointing over to a central location on my network, but it now of course won't show up until the other pc has been accessed with the U&P.

Also, relogging of network drives at startup fails too; I presume because of the same reason?
I see it as an absolute necessity to have it save the username and password like XP does and keep it for every (next) session (bootup), otherwise any network stuff that is automatically set to run would be useless?? I certainly do hope this will be changed before the final.
In the meantime, I'm sure there are commands that can be used either in batch or WSH to initiate a logon? WSH is still being used in Vista isn't it?

This sounds like a bug to me. I'm not sure if it's already known or not. Please file a bug report.

Just a note that I have resolved this issue, but I'm not sure if it's still a bug or not?
In XP, when I access a computer on the network that requires a U&P, I put in my local username (which is also added in accounts on the other machine) for the first time, then it keeps it for every session.
In Vista, the resolution to it not keeping my username and password was that I found the 'manage network passwords' area and this time I manually changed it to point to the same username, but the one on the networked computer, and it keeps it and all works fine. I guess I must ask if I've been doing it all the improper way all this time (in XP too) with putting the correct username but the local username? ie client is named PRIMARY, other computer on network I'm accessing is named SECONDARY, and I've been logging on to SECONDARY as PRIMARY\(username). Obviously XP accepts it, but Vista not.

I'll call it a bug and expect it to be "Fixed". This is not a feature to ignore the save password option. You have to realize network logons don't have save password options in windows XP Home, but it does in XP Pro. That's a security feature. I woud never pay for Vista if this was the way it was meant to work, just like I would never buy Windows Xp Home.
Note to Microsoft. Even home users are networked between there PCs & notebook computers. You might want to consider that before releasing a basic version without this "feature"
